Cummins Columbus Mid-Range Engine Plant’s (CMEP) 40+ year old process and HVAC cooling tower systems required replacement.  MNA evaluated multiple locations on the project site to locate the new tower system to allow a 48 hour changeover from old to new, and eliminate as much of the existing underground piping as possible.  The combination of high efficiency cooling towers and locating the system in close proximity to the HVAC and process loads resulted in a significant energy savings and eliminated the operational risk of continued use of more than a quarter mile of 40+ year old buried pipe. The pump house, placed in the front of the building, was designed to mimic the materials of the existing plant while landscape berms screened views of the cooling towers from each entry drive.
